Once you lose touch with reality you have no way of knowing what of the input you receive is true and what is false. If you hear the sound of a slamming door how do you know if a door slammed in real life or if your mind just told you that it did. When your mind begins to turn on you and starts to perceive things that aren't real you have no way to know what is real and what isn't. It was known that he was unwell and he was left to his own devices. I feel for Li because both his community and his mind betrayed him. Just like medication can keep cholesterol in check, medication can keep psychotic symptoms in check. There will be no legal obligations or restrictions pertaining to Li's independent living. Li was granted permission to live in a group home. He believed he heard God to kill McLean for being a demon and an alien that needed to be “destroyed” and went as far as mutilating his body to prevent him from coming back to life.Īfter a two day trial Li was committed to a mental care center. In his trial Li pleaded not criminally responsible because of a mental illness. Police found McLean’s ear, nose, and tongue in Li’s pocket, but suspect that Li ate the missing body parts. The police were able to collect several parts of McLean’s body from the bus, but that his heart and eyes were never recovered. Upon his arrest Li apologized and pleaded with police to kill him. Li attempted to escape by smashing a window that's when he was apprehended. It took five grueling hours before the police were able to arrest Li. He continued to dismember McLean’s body and, in a truly sickening display, even consumed parts of his flesh. Horrifically, Li then lifted McLean’s severed head up to the window for the other passengers to see. All they could do is to lock the bus so that Li couldn’t escape. The bus pulled over and most passengers fled, a young veteran tried to intervene with the help of the bus driver and a truck driver who stopped to help but to no avail. Li unleashed a frenzied attack on McLean, repeatedly stabbing the younger man in the neck and chest with a large knife. The 22-year-old was traveling home to Winnipeg where his pregnant girlfriend was waiting.Ī passenger named Vincent Li,boarded the bus .After a stop, Li moved to the back of the bus -and positioned himself next to McLean, who was asleep with his head against the window. Tim McLean, a carnival worker, boarded Greyhound Canada Bus. Theres always more that can be done, but for how long should they have too? Without knowing all the facts of how the line went down, or if witnesses were warned beforehand etc it is hard to say that you have to be angry with them. There is always more things that could be done, but at the same time I know noone actually had to help. Just that little thing they did meant so much to alot of us who had witnessed the accident, but it was actually the police who told us to get help and even offered their services to help us. The store did not have to do anything, but staff were helping look after the kids and the managers called their homes to get meals brought in (we had been warned that we was going to be there for some time, unless we was happy to walk past the scene after they'd got round to questioning ppl). The store had nothing to do with the accident, but they gave the kids toys off their shelves to keep them busy while other staff members looked after the ppl who had witnessed it. I ran into a store with my daughter where there was other ppl being sick and feeling unwell. This man's head came right off and rolled passed us. I witnessed an accident, where a man jumped over a barrier in the road and was then run over by an 18 wheeler.
